For Everybody – Prof Grange

The One time Federal Minister of Health
Professor Adenike Grange as the honorable Keynote Speaker at the chief (Dr)
Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi (M.A.M.F) in collaboration with St.Nicholas
hospital which is tagged ‘The August Event” celebrating chief (Dr) Majekodunmi’s
ideas on health care, education and his 5th memorial said that
medicine is for everybody.
The theme of the August Event, Health, A
National challenges. Restructuring and driving sustainable growth. The August
Event is held at Agip Recital Hall, MUSON centre Onikan, Lagos island, Lagos.
The keynote speaker prof. Grange did present
her célèbra lecture through slides and she Marshaled outlines of the 28 – page
lecture which came in as introduction, health status and post approach to
health care, how the change began, structural challenges, Recommendations for
removing challenges, current changes policy and legislative, expected outcomes
and finally conclusion.
Of a truth, The Keynote speaker, Prof. Grange
did not disappoint the elitist crowds. The chairman of the august event is no
other personality but, His Majesty, Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukuwu Achebe, CFR,
Mni,
The Obi of Onitsha who gladly told the audience how he met with chief (Dr)
Majekodunmi in the year 1960 and he further said that since they crossed paths,
that it as been a very uncommon relationship between them.
The Chief Medical Director of Federal Medical
Centers Ebute—metta, lagos, Dr. Ademola Dada represented the Hon minister of
health, Prof.Isaac Folorunsho Adewole, who said that the theme of august event
is quite apt for this period as the health of a nation is determined by the
health of its people.
He further says that an event like this is
critical for a search as a people a nation towards improving and refining the
practices and systems. The hon. minister of health says in his words ``I am
confident that the various thoughts of the various expects here today would
contribute towards our search for the best system that can deliver effective
and efficient services to our people and to our nation.”
Speaking the hon. minister of health Prof. Adewole
says that they appreciate the vital roles of the private sector and the Non- Governmental
Organizations in the healthcare delivery system of Nigeria and would continue
to ensure that they support and encourage their continued collaboration between the public and private
sector in health must remain a priority and as it is only in this mutual
collaboration that they can perfect the primary healthcare strategy of bringing
healthcare to the door steps of all and Sundry.
Speaking Hon. Commissioner of Health of Lagos
state, Dr Jide Idris said that the Lagos state government is in collaboration
with private sector in making sure that the best practices of health care
delivery is being given to the masses. He says that he quite concurred with the
keynote speaker Prof. Grange who he said that she did deliver her lecture
lucidly.
Speaking the esteemed chairman of M.A.M.F
Chief (Arc) Olufemi Majekodunmi said that he is really pleased that his late
father’s ideas and legacies are beginning to affect the lives of the down trodden
masses. He used the august event to thank God for his family blessing with
longevity status as he told the audience that two of his aunts are 91 and 96
years old.
That his own father lived up 96 years old
before he joined his ancestors in the year 2012. Speaking the Executive Director
of M.A.M.F, Bolaji Fati read a 6—page comprehensive analysis of the milestone
activities that foundation has championed as she told the audience that the
foundation was founded in the year 2000 but commenced full operation in 2012,
focusing on two key principle ideals, healthcare and education.
Speaking further Fati said that M.A
Majekodunmi foundation has over years provided health and education
interventions in a number of communities in Ogun and Lagos reaching out to
disadvantaged communities as well as touching and impacting lives and living
Fati gave a summary of some of the remarkable works undertaken by the
foundation, firstly she mentioned of their health care initiatives in the last
two years, M.A.M.F alone has attended to more than 8000 person through their medical
outreaches in Lagos and Ogun state.
She said that the MAMF worked in partnership
with the medical personnel from St Nicholas Hospital setting up a day long
medical post in different disadvantages communities using qualified doctors,
nurses, Lab scientist, pharmacists and volunteers as they tested, diagnosed,
treated and provided free high end medication for various ailments as where
necessary, referrals were made to the nearest general hospital for treatment.
The MAMF has held a minimum of four medical
outreaches a year. Fati says the foundation has so far trained over 300 nurses
in capacity building in Lagos and Ogun state. The foundation assisted an eight
year boy with extreme bow legs as the corrective surgery on the boy was a huge
success.
The foundation showed a short video clip of
all the good works she carried out in the last four years. The panelists which comprised
Mrs. Dare Omatsege, Dr. Orode Doherty, Pharmacist Remi Adesun and Mr. Oyebisi
Babatunde Oluseyi and these panelists gave a good account of themselves as they
scholarly discussed the theme of august events effortlessly.
