ARE THE SAME - PROF. IWU

The Professor of Pharmacognosy Prof. Maunce Mmaduakolam Iwu
as the guest speaker at the model Herbal Clinic of Department of Pharmacy,
University of Lagos in commemoration of African Traditional Medicine day also
featuring Exhibition of Nigeria Herbal products at Chapel of the Healing Cross
Hexagonal, opposite Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), idiaraba, Lagos
has said No two individuals are the same in all ramifications.
Prof Iwu was the 3rd Chairman of the Independent
National Electoral Commission INEC from June 2005 – April 2010. He was preceded
by Abel Guobadia and succeeded by Prof.Attahine Jega.
He is the chairman of the board of Director of Inter CEDD
Health Products, a dietary supplements manufacturing and market company,
consortium of six companies that focused on the entire value chain of agriculture,
health and wellness sector from organic farms through scientific research and
drug development, to manufacturing market and sales seeks to promote the
development and sustainable utilization of natural product for health and
cosmetics.
Prof. Iwu delivered his lecture through slides and he did
not disappoint the audience with his lucid delivery.
The theme of the lecture is Herbs of Health --Application
and Development and of a truth the professor of Pharmacognosy took his time and
broke down the subject matter with easy and simpler analysis and the
participants were thrilled.
The Chairman of the event President Alternative Medicine
Association Archbishop Magnus Atilade was represented by Pharmacist Sir
Ifeariyi Atuenyi, the Publisher and Editor in Pharma news, but while this was
still on going the substantive chairman arrived. In his closing remarks,
Archbishop Atilade narrated to the audience the ugly experiences he has
encountered in the past 25 years that he has been involved in the evolution of
the use of alternative medicine in treating ailments of Nigerians and Africans.
He pleasantly told the audience that his late father lived
up to 100 years and in that 100 years that his late father never drank orthodox
medicine rather he said his late dad did take herbs and roots wherever he took
Ill.
He further told the participants that when he began this worthy cause that
he was branded native doctor almost all places he went to but, he disclosed to
the gathering that because he knew what he was doing that he kept on pursing
his cause and he proud inform the gathering that the federal government true
the ministry of Health as made him chairman of all alternative medicine practitioners
in conjunction with Nigerian medical research (NIMR) iyaba Lagos.
He uncommonly thanked
and praised Prof Iwu for the lucid lecture he delivered. Speaking with
journalists Prof Sunday Salami who did represent both the vice chancellor of
university of Lagos, Akoka, yaba Lagos Prof. Rahmon Bello and also the provost
of college of medicine, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Idi- Araba,
Lagos, Professor Leash said that the presentation of the Lecture by the
department of Phamacognosy is very apt and timely on our body polity.
He agrees that Africa tradition al medicine is good for Nigeria
and Africa, because he queried that before the coming of white men, how was
Africans treated when they took ill, he
said that they were treated with herbs and roots and that they got well and
that they lived stronger, healthier and longer than these days with western
scientist all over the place.
Speaking with journalists, Titilayo Badejo the father of Mrs
Toyin Adegun, the Local Organizing Chairman (LOC) who proudly gave honors to
Almighty God and her parents who raised her up nicely. Badejo himself told the
journalists that he too is very grateful to God that gave his spouse and
himself the uncommon graces to train up their daughter in all levels of
education and today their daughter is a lecturer at the department of pharmacognosy
of faculty of pharmacy of college of
medicine University of Lagos Idi-Araba.
Speaking again Badejo concurred that the African Traditional
Medicine should be patronized by all and sundry because our fore bears never
drank the Whiteman’s medicine and they lived very well.
