The pharmaceutical
Society of Nigeria (PSN) Lagos State Branch Showcases 2016 Pharmacy Week with a
conference held at Welcome Event Centre, Muritala Mohammed International
Airport Road, Lagos. The theme of
the conference dwelled on Human Resources and Pharmacy Practice: Leadership in
Turbulent Times.
The conference was
chaired by Pharmacist Olumide Akintayo, immediate past president
Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria which the special guest of honour
pharmacist Alhaji Ahmed Yakasai, president pharmaceutical society of Nigeria.
The conference also
attracted guest of honour pharmacists Mohammed, registration pharmacists
council of Nigeria and Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile – Yusuf. Hon. Commissioner,
ministry of youth and social development, Lagos State.
The key note Address
speaker pharmacist Onyeka Onyeibor, Managing Director, Miral Pharmaceuticals
Limited.Speaking at the conference venue the Chairman, Pharmaceutical Society
of Nigeria, Lagos State branch Pharm. Gbenga Olubowale said that the pharmacy
week is an enlightment programme of pharmaceutical society of towards
sustaining and improving the health values of the general populace at all
times.
He told the participants
the event of 2016 pharmacy week began with thanksgiving service at religious
houses on Friday August 5th and August 7th, 2016 respectively as he reeled out
all the remaining outline of the 2016 pharmacy week to the participants.
He told the audience
that the theme for pharmacy week 2016 is human resources and pharmacy practice,
leadership in turbulent times while the sub-themes are:
· Repositioning pharmacy practice in challenging
economy and
Dealing with the scourge
of adverse drug reaction.
He reminded the
participants that the choice of the theme and sub-themes were quite apart for
the period all Nigeria do live now. And of a truth the three speakers did not
disappoint the participants, the keynote speaker pharm.
Oruyeibor did
exceedingly well with both scientific and management expositions to his
colleagues as professionals as he addressed the issues of man power development
in pharmacy practice and he equally challenged his colleagues to provide the
needed leadership in their various areas of practice in this trying time that
the county is expenencing.
The sub-themes speakers,
Pharm. Gabriel Okoli, the regional director (East) globalcon Ldt also did
extremely good when he handled Repositioning Pharmacy Practice in a
Challenging Economies and Pharm (Dr) Ibrahim Oreagba, a pharmacovigilance
pundit with University of Lagos addressed his colleague on how to
reposition pharmacy practice in a challenging economic as well as dealing
with the Scourge of adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) in Nigeria respectively.
Speaking with formalists the Chairman Planning Committee and Managing Director,
Slyken Pharmaceuticals Pharm.
Uche Nwena said that the
pharmacy weeks is an annual event and also an avenue used to promote . pharmacy
and pharmacist to the conscioushness of Lagosians in general. He
gladly told the media that the planning committee welcomes their fellows of the
society, Lagos PNS merit award winners, colleagues, notable guests, various
pharmaceutical companies et’al.
He told the media that
the planning committee had done a great research by choosing the speakers for
the conference and the theme and sub-themes. He advised all and sundry to
always avoid patronizing touts who parade themselves as qualified Pharmacists
where as they are killers of innocent Nigerians
