College of Technology is free of Cultism – says Dean Student Affairs Unit,
Oladipo
By Leo Ezekiel
When you walk into the
complex of Yaba College of Technology from the gate of Abule Ijesha entrance,
on the right side of the road where the building housing School of
Environmental Studies, right there, there is a bold inscription Don’t Be Deceived, Cultism Leads
Destruction, Be Firm – Say No.
The Yaba College of
Technology has just celebrated her 31st Convocation Ceremony at the
Sports Pavilion on Thursday 19, October 2017 and after the event, we decided to
seek the views of the Dean Student Affairs Unit Mr. Ademola Oladipo, but, he
was quite busy with his students in a meeting where they were putting finishing
touches as regards the carnival the entire Students body would hold on Friday
20 October, 2017. We placed calls to him and he humbly told us to meet with him
in his office the next day for 8am and of a truth Oladipo was in his office
before 8 am and we too the Online reporters were also there before 8am. When we
got to his office, his assistant ushered us into his expansive and well
decorated office. We all exchanged banters and wafters before the interview
proper did start.

Please do kindly introduce yourself to us!.
Oladipo:
I am Mr. Ademola Oladipo, Dean Student
Affairs Unit, Yaba College of Technology. I was appointed as the Dean Student
Affairs Unit, YCT, since October 2016 and I have just spent one year plus in
this office. I am very glad to tell your reporters that Yaba College of
Technology is totally free from cultism activities, as I am a grass rooted man
amongst the students. I parley with Students’ Union executives a lot and other
relevant bodies in the campus.

Yaba College of Technology has just graduated 9,021 graduants at her 31st
Convocation and what are your views, projections, for the future as the College
also celebrates 70th Anniversary.
Oladipo:
My views are very clear because the just concluded Convocation turned out to be
the best in the last six years ago. The turn out of parents/guardians, friends,
relatives and well wishers of the graduants came out enmass to honour their
children, wards, brothers and sisters. The graduants already know the sons and
daughters who there are, as there is a saying that by the company you keep, it
tells who you are. Since they are products of Yaba College of Technology that
they should be worthy ambassadors and at same time, they should keep the flag
flying higher because the Management, Administrative and Teaching Staff have
actually and heavily impacted the Students through learning and character
building. Yaba College of Technology has well over 100 Lecturers with a
doctorate degrees i.e. PhDs and also non academic staffers are heavily educated
with high skills and competencies. I believe the College will fly in high
colours in these years to come in all ramifications of academic activities and
sports applications.
As in the last WAPOGA games, Yaba College of Technology
came out first over all. The current Rector of Yaba College of Technology, the
elegant Dr. (Mrs.) Margaret Kudi Ladipo has really catapulted the College with
good learning environment and good infrastructural facilities provided for all
and sundry, as speaking to the media men said that he is quite inspired with
developments the College has recorded over time as Chief Henry Ojosho, the
Executive Vice Chairman of Broron Oil and Gas Ltd has pledged a donation of N10million of rehabilitation of the
College roads.

Examination malpractice has been a serious issue in the campuses in Nigeria,
what are your views as regards Yaba College of Technology.
Oladipo:
The issues of examination malpractice is a serious matter in all tertiary
institutions across the nation, but, we at Yaba College of Technology, we are
always working hard to make sure Students study extremely hard so that they the
students should not foolishly involve themselves in the act, because once the
College Authorities catch up with such scapegoats, the College Management does
not waste time in investigating such cases and once the culprits are found culpably,
they are shown the way out of the College, so that the good name at 70 years of
reputation achieved may not be crashed just like packs of cards.

Thank you so much for your time and attentions.
