2018 BEGINS AT LAGOS STATE POLYTECHNIC IKORODU

The International Conference on Infrastructure
Development in Africa “(ICIDA) 2018 with theme: The Complexity of
infrastructure system: What are we fixing has began at the 500 sitter’s
multipurpose hall of Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, Lagos.
Speaking to the
audience the Rector Samuel Oluyinka Sogunmo gave a graphical background history
of the establishment of the polytechnic in 1977 with 287 students that began programs
in 1978 has actually within a period of
40 years, blossomed to 36 Departments in eight schools including the school of
part-time students with a total of 30,790 students and 922 staffers as present.
Speaking to the audience the rector Sogunro said that Africa is blessed with persons
with high intelligence quotient who are well endowed with ability to provide
solutions to hassles, challenging the very existence of man in Africa.
Sogunro concurs
in his mind that the gathering of eminent scholars at the conference would at
the end, further prove to the globe that Africans could actually place Africa
in the domain of advanced globe.
Sogunro agrees that the wrong perception of
Africa as a peripheral continent by the Euro centric theorists will definitely
be deflated at this conference of feelers that reached him from the
organization of the conference as regards the caliber of scholars, keynote
speakers and also the quality of papers to be presented for concentration as
Sogunro believes that physical infrastructure covering transportation, power and
communication, through backward and forward linkage, facilitate growth while
supply, sanitation, sewage disposal, education and health.
Speaking to the
audience a director in the ministry of education of Lagos state government
Sutton who did represent the state governor Mr. Akinwunmi Dapo Ambode, He said
that the administration of H.E Ambode has actually provided the dividends of
democracy in the areas of health care sector, roads infrastructure,
transportation, communication, provision of employment and when he rose up from his address, he therefore declared
ICIDA 2018 open.
Speaking to the audience, provost, college of social and
management sciences, AFE Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Professor Adeolu
Durotoye represented AARE AFE Babalola University, as a keynote speaker professor
Durotoye did not disappoint the local and international scholars that gathered
at the 500 sitter’s multipurpose hall.He touched so much on the theme of ICIDA
2018 with his lucid presentation.
He pragmatically noted that government only
cannot provide quality education as education is bedrock of successes and
uncommon means of acquiring knowledge he noted that the federal government
should always be transparent and accountable, with the funds at its disposals.
He noted that most of the hassles facing the nation are wrong procurement and
costing of infrastructure.
He also noted that Nigerians do not have the hearts
giving as philanthropy but, rather they prefer to purchase bullet proof vehicles
for #500,000 billion which would have been used for establishment of good
infrastructure, He made reference to Canada, where the government and private
sectors collaborate to improving the basic needed infrastructure for massive
development for mankind. He told the audience that AFE Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti
stated in the year 2010 and in just eight years, the university has become one
of the best Universities in Africa and the globe generally.
He informed the
audience that AFE Babalola University has 7000 sitter’s multipurpose hall. Speaking
with journalists Chairman, Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of ICIDA 2018
Nurudeen Olatunde Basorun said that the ICIDA 2018 has come at the right time
to position Africa to where she actually belongs to.
Speaking further he said
that Africa is blessed with uncommon scholars who have succeeded in their
chosen careers, but, because of bad governance that has been the very problem
of African leaders or Heads of State, things do not work out well for massive
development as nothing comes from nothing.
He said that the conference would
marshal out lots of ideas in moving Africa and Africans to a higher level of
development. The ICIDA 2018 would run from March 28th -31st
2018. The seventh international conference on infrastructure development in
Africa has the following institutions as collaborators BELLS University of
Technology, Lagos State Polythenic as the host, University of Johannesburg and
lastly University of Manchester.
