I Have Four Cardinal Points Agenda
for YCT – Engr. Omokungbe

Speaking
with gentle men of the press at the Rector’s Conference room of the Yaba
College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos the Rector, Engr. Femi Omokungbe said that
he has mapped out four cardinal points agenda to be carried out during his
tenure as the new rector of the first higher education institution in Nigeria
adding that he has put in place the plans of improving and development of academic
activities for both the students and lecturers.
Speaking
further he said that Yaba College of
Technology being a technical education at centre of choice and academic
excellence in Africa that training of quality and middle manpower personnel for
the nation adding that academic improvement and development must be pursued
vigorously for the huge benefits of humanity.
Speaking
further, the rector, Engr. Femi Omokungbe said that the tetefunds that they
have not assessed is over Two Hundred Million Naira Only adding that when this
heavy monies would be assessed that a lot of the funds would be used in the
training of lecturers for PHD programmes abroad, but, that before the proposal
would be approved by the governing council of the College, that the governing
council would have carried out a thorough investigations, that the courses of
study applied for would be of immense benefits to the students and the College.
He
said that the College is heavily challenged by the lack of space at Yaba
College adding that most of the buildings in the College are very very very old
and lots of them would be demolished for newer ones to be built for the
standards the College has attracted. He said that more of hall residence would
be built for students adding that the college needs to expand her physical
structures for the benefits of the students and the personnel.
And,
again the Rector said that money is the will of evangelism adding that the
College would internally generate funds from projects like Yaba College of
technology Table Water and bakery as it happens at the University of Lagos,
Akoka, Yaba, lagos. He concurs that the monies that would be generated
internally would in no small measure assist the College in achieving her set
out objectives for the overall good for mankind. He said that, monies garned
from part time programmes and Yaba Consult are not ample enough to meet the
needs of the College hence other sources would be employed to generate funds
internally.
The
Rector, Engr. Omokungbe said they plan to build 700 bed spaces hostel and other
facilities that would enhance indoor sports which Yaba College of Technology is
known for in the involvement of active participation in the sporting
activities. He gladly informed the gentlemen of the press that the College has
a Laboratory where bolts and nuts are processed adding that that have the
capacity to produce slippers for rail lines for the Nigeria Railway
Corporation. He concurs that the College has to grant study leave to lecturers
that are qualified to benefit from such windows and that the College has to map
out a workable welfare packages for both the students and personnel of the
College in all ramifications.
The
Rector Engr. Omokungbe noted that as a Comrade of Labour, he believes that the
Management and the Union are partners of uncommon progress to both parties
adding that if the right attitudes are applied at all times, that there would
be huge synergy between the Union and the Management of the College.
He
said that for now there is no students’ Union Government (SUG) at the moment,
but, that the College Management is considering lifting the ban placed on the
SUG, but that, the SUG would function the ways the yesteryears SUG functioned
at the higher institutions. Speaking further, he noted that he is not
press-shy, but media friendly; stating clearly that the reason he is having his
first media parley were as a result of certain challenges he met on ground when
he assumed office in the month of March 2018. However, he concurs that there
would be regular media parley with the gentlemen of the press in the future.

YABA COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY MATRICULATES 14,912 NEW IN-TAKES
The
Yaba College of Technolohgy has academically matriculated 14,912 new students
of National Diploma full time, Higher National Diploma; full time, National
Diploma and Higher National Diploma Part time. In taking the oaths of
matriculation, the Rector of the College, Engr. Omokungbe read out all the
necessary rules and regulations that govern the entire institution, adding that
the newly matriculated students have accepted to abide to shun all forms of
anti-social activities such as cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractices,
sexual misbehavior and unruly behaviour, adding that all the newly matriculated
students must at all times ensure that they abide by the oath.
Speaking
to the matriculating students, the Rector, Engr. Omokungbe said that there must
be discipline in behvaiour, discipline in appearance, adding that all students
must attend lectures for about 75% before such student or students could be
allowed to sit for an examination at the end of the Semester.
The
Rector, Engr. Omokungbe, speaking further to the students stated that, the
College has compulsory courses, which must be taken by all students throughout
their stay at the College and one of such courses are entrepreneurial
orientation, Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The newly matriculated
students were heavily informed by the Rector, Engr. Omokungbe that there are
societies and social clubs such as Departmental Associations, State
Associations and Social Cultural Associations.
Speaking
again to the newly matriculated students, the Rector, Engr. Omokungbe said that
there is religious tolerance as the College encourages freedom of worship and
association in religious activities adding that Christians and Muslims co-exist
in harmony as there are designated different places of worship in the College
for the two religious groups.

Omokungbe pleasantly said that the College encourages participation of students
in sporting activities adding that the Collage has excelled not only in
academies but, however, has made great strides in the areas of sports as the
College has produced eminent sportsmen and women who won laurels for the
College in several past editions of the Nigerian Polytechnic Games.
The
Rector, Engr. Omokungbe sincerely informed the students that the College has
UNESCO, UNEVOC Centre for research and sustainable Development, adding that
this is a specialized centre for Technical Vocation Education Training (TVET)
as the College is a technical and vocational education and training
institution, that emphasis is therefore laid on competency based education as
it is also important that students are taught and imbibe with the correct
skills to make them employable and relevant in the workplace.
