Leaders Need Political Will – Prof Obot Essien Antia – Obong

Speaking
as the guest lecturer at the Malaria Research Centre (MRC) auditorium Lagos State University Teaching
Hospital (LASUTH) Ikeja, Lagos Professor Obot Essien Antia – Obong of
Univeristy of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) Calabar said that our leaders
need political will to move the economic of the nation effectively,
efficiently, objectively, productively optimally and pragmatically for the
public good of the citizenry adding that without our leaders having political
will nothing tangible would be achieved.
Speaking further Prof. Antia – Obong
said that the theme ‘Securing the future of the Nigerian child through the
SDGS: Lessons from he MDGS’ is aptly educative, informative and inspiringly
adding that faculty of Pediatrics National Post Graduate Medical College of
Nigeria (2018 Faculty Day Ceremonies) came at a time the citizenry needs such
explosive lecturers Prof. Antia-Obong did not disappoint the academic audience
with his Lucid and Cerebral Style of delivery. He outlined all the SDGS agenda
to the audience adding that importance of each SDGS to the audience.
He told
the audience that the political leaders really got to have the political will
to Marshall all out the needed dividends of democracy for the downtrodden
masses adding that education opens the doors and windows for all that had
formal education the opportunities of attaining the highest points of better
life style. He said that the United Nations told all National government globally to allocate
25% of their national budget to education, but, he said very sadly that the
Federal Republic of Nigeria has not adhered to the UN viewpoints rather they
allocate only 7% of the national budget to education which has not been able to
eradicate un-education and poverty in the hand.
He said that the teeming youths
of the land got to be provided with employments so as to prevent the breakdown
of the law of land by committing all brands of crimes. When Prof. Antia-Obong
rounded off his uncommon lecture he was roundly applauded and a standing
ovation was accorded to him.
