Fashola Urges
Yabatech Graduands To Be Creative Thinkers

Speaking as
the guest speaker the Honorable Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde
Raji Fashola at the 32nd Convocation lecture of Yaba College of
Technology, Yaba, Lagos at Yusuf Grillo Arts Auditorium urged the graduands to
be creative thinkers as the lecture
topic clearly and loudly demands of all and sundry to fall in with “ Sustainability of Technological
Advancement” – A key to Industrial Growth adding that the lecture topic
clearly depicts the other centuries lived on and the 21st Century
that sustainable technology advancement had actually made lives and businesses
very easy and fast.
Speaking further
as the guest speaker the Honorable Minister of Works, Power and Housing Fashola said that raising a child from the
cradle is an herculean task for parents adding that the bulwark of raising
children or wards rests on the teachers, lecturers, instructors as the children
or wards are always referring to whatever teachers said to them in their
different classes. He told the scholarly audience that sustainable
technological advancement had actually improved communications, relationships,
businesses, banking, maritime, politics, medicals et’al at the tap of fingers
on cell mobile phones, laptops,
computers, emails, whatsapp, Facebook, twitter, opera mini, instagram and
because of all sustainable technological advancements that there is really
massive industrial growth in all ramifications. But, be that as it may with the
industrial growth recorded thus far, he categorically charged the Yaba College
of Technology graduands to be creative thinkers so that they too could catch up
with the latest trends in the global market.
He
pleasantly analyzed the improvement attained through sustainable technological
advancements in the banking sector adding that in the past banking operations
were something else, but, now with the latest technologies that banking can be
done easily and fast with Automated Teller Machine (ATM) one can now withdraw
monies with ease, no longer coming to the bank to get tally number and all
that. He said account opening which used to be herculean is now very fast
He opined
that in the next 10 to 20 years to come that they would be uncommon outstanding
breakthroughs in the areas technological advancements and he pleasantly goaded
the graduates of Yaba College Of Technology to largely key in flow of latest
brandings globally adding that time would come when almost all and sundry may
be branded zombies
The Guest
Speaker Fashola employed many models to drive home his lucid, inspiring and
insightful lectures to the academia at the Grillo Arts Auditorium. Speaking
further he said that these Graduands are the future pensions and gratuities of
the teachers teaching them today adding that when he was the Executive Governor
of Lagos State for eight years that he personally took photographs of his old
teachers that providence brought them together in his office at Alausa Ikeja,
Lagos. Yes, he is not a certified
technologist or scientist, but of a truth he did not disappoint the audiences
with his cerebral presentations and it was done enstampore. When he rounded off
his lucid presentations he was roundly and pleasantly accorded a standing
ovation. Speaking to the audience the Chief Host and Rector of Yaba College Of
Technology Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe said that convocation lecture is a very important
component of the graduation ceremony adding that it is an avenue to examine
issues of national and global interest with a view to preferring solutions
identified challenges. He said that the recommendation as consequence would
assist the relevant organs in formulation and implementation of policies that
would pleasantly and uncommonly be beneficial to the national development
adding that the academic board of the College on that heels, carefully selected
the theme of the lecture titled Sustainability
of Technological Advancements – A key to Industrial Growth as he publicly
concurred that this is in line with the faith of their founding fathers who
desired a solid foundation for the national development through technology.
Speaking
further Engr. Omokungbe said that sustainable development has been defined by
the United Nations as development that meets the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of generate new ideas to meet their own needs adding as
a nation some progressive efforts has been made to improve her technological
advancement, but that there are still more hurdles to be tackled.
Speaking
again the Rector of Yaba College of Technology Engr. Omokungbe said that for a
technology to be sustainable it meant, its usage doesn’t have any long term
adverse impact on the environment adding that to activate this the academia had
a very significant role
to play as well as on this basis that they are here to listen to the guest
speaker and honourable minister of power, works and housing Fashola who by dint
of hard work and providence had experiences the use of technology in nation building
and development.
Speaking again the Chief host and rector
of Yaba college of technology Engr.Omokungbe said that Yaba college of
technology as the premier territory institution would continue to provide the
platform that would generates new ideas, Frontiers and innovation adding that
on their own pant they had repositioned the college to provide their students
the required functional education which would challenge them to be productive
and innovate.
He said that they had acquired modern
equipment within the limit of their resources to aid teaching and provide their
graduates the opportunity to compete favourably with their contemporaries
around the globe adding they had tried to improve their facilities to further
espouse the students to current trends in the areas of technology.
He avers that the college would
continue to provide them with enabling environment for trading and teaching as
their graduates are spread all over the globe, making giant strides and
contributing to the socio-economics development of Nigeria.
He said the presence of the
honourable minister and guest speaker is not an accident and they did not an
accident and they did not want the golden opportunity to be wished away adding
that the great Yaba College of Technology is 71years old and that some of the
infrastructure with respect to the road network as well as the provision of
electricity are as old as the institution itself adding that the stark reality
is that routine maintenance and refurbishment no longer suffices for these
infrastructure.
Speaking as the chairman of the event
Honourable Justice Ishola Oloinnimbe OON (Rtd) former ChiefJudge of Lagos state
did not disappoint the academia and other stakeholders with his cerebral intellects
with which he employed to carry all and sundry as a resourceful chairman parse.
He cracked some jokes that made
audience laughed happily healthily and all that. He branded the guest speaker
Fashola on three star army general because of his port polio in the ministries
of power, works and housing.
The management of Yaba College of
Technology through the chairman of Governing Council Abdulateef Fabeni and
Engr. Omokungbe did present an uncommon plaques and painted art works from Higher
National Diploma II student of YCT to the uncommon guests i.e Fashola and Olurunnimbe both Senior
Advocate of Nigeria. And the 32nd convocation ceremony proper comes
