JUDICIARY
ONLY GOD HIMSELF CONTROLS TIME- BARR. PRINCE OLOKE
BY MILES OLU
Speaking as the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA)
Ikeja Branch on Monday 21st day of January 2019 at the Nigerian Bar Association
Secretariat (Bar Centre) Oba Akinjobobi Way, Ikeja, Lagos Barr. Prince Dete
Oloke said Only God Himself Controls Time not man’s adding that the Chief Judge
of Lagos State, Hon Justice Opeyemi Oke ( The Hon chief Judge of Lagos State)
had purposed that any lawyer who arrived at court sitting late would pay a fine
of One Hundred Thousand Naira only (₦100,000,00)
to the coffers of the Lagos State. Barr Prince Oloke said that any lawyer who
knows his or her whims and caprices would not be late at court, adding that the
Lagos dynamics can never be predicted for instance a lawyer may leave his or
her house by 6am in the morning for a court sitting for 9am, but, alas the
traffic situation may not be determined because only God Himself controls time
not man. Time and space are in the hands of God not man’s, so, apparently the
lateness fine for arriving late at court sitting should not be way out as it
may directly or indirectly jeopardize the legal applications for all and
sundry.
Speaking again Barr. Prince Oloke said that United Nations
has rated Nigeria a poverty nation adding that where would a poor widow have Thirty
Thousand Naira(30,000) filing fees while fighting a battle to secure the only
half plot of land her deceased spouse did leave behind for her and her
offspring et’al.
Speaking further Barr.
Prince Oloke said that an invitation to their branch by the Chief Judge of
Lagos State Honourable Justice Oke for them to attend a formal Launch of the
Lagos state High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019 adding that the members of
NBA Ikeja Branch at the meeting they held ratified the decision of the
Executives not to honour the invite of the Chief Judge Honourable justice Oke
to attend the formal launch of the New Rules.
Barr. Prince Oloke said that the members of the Ikeja branch
do largely and vehemently opposed to any rules of court designed to frustrate
lawyers and as well as litigants adding that it is no gain saying that Nigeria
and particularly Lagos state do have the largest numbers of poorest of the poor
than the rich and uncommonly affluent.
Speaking again with journalists Barr. Prince Oloke said that
it is really an affront to the 6,500 and above members of the NBA Ikeja Branch
that despite the letters written to Honourable Chief Judge did find no need to
dignify the entire Bar with a reaction or response adding that the truth
remains truth, nothing on earth can ever change it as the Late Moshood Kashimawo Olawole (MKO) Abiola did say “no bird can fly with one wing neither can
a man clap with one hand” So the chief Judge and the Judiciary can’t function
effectively and efficiently without the Bar regardless the inherent powers of
the Chief Judge to make rules by court.
Speaking again with journalists, Barr. Prince Oloke said
that the NBA Ikeja do hereby ordered that it’s committee should be on alert and
stand by for the release of the Rules (Civil procedure) and had been directed
to report to the house within 48hours for necessary actions if the Chief Judge
Honourable Justice Oke goes ahead to include the obnoxious sections which are heavily
designed to painfully frustrate lawyers and the down trodden masses litigants
adding the Branch would uncommonly deploy all that is necessary including court
boycott and litigation in order to ensure that the Chief Judge Honourable
Jutsice Oke is not used as instrument to frustrate lawyers and the toiling
litigants.
Rising from the press conference the Chairman of NBA Ikeja
Branch Barr. Prince Oloke said that an Extra-ordinary General Meeting (EGM) had
been slated to take place tentatively on Monday, 28th January, 2019
at the Bar Centre.
Questions were fielded in by the members of the press to the
Chairman Barr. Prince Oloke and of a truth he pragmatically gave wider
elucidations to the grey areas of the Press Conference.
