February 16th,
2019.
I wrote a
letter of media accreditation of our media house IconblazemagazineonlinePortal
to the resident electoral Commissioner
Independent National Electoral Commission, Yaba, Lagoos on a Monday February,
4th 2019. When I dropped the said letter a female personnel in the
office of the resident electoral
Commissioner received it and stamped our file copy. She told us to check
back on 7th February, 2019
and of a truth we went back to INEC Office, Yaba, Lagos when we got there we
met the Commission holding a parley with people with disabilities which we
covered and flew it in our online portal www.Iconblazemagazineonline.blogspot.com.
Again we
were told to check back on 15th February, 2019 for our kits to
enable us cover, monitor and assess the February 16th 2019 Presidential and NASS elections. We met with
some of our colleagues and we all concurred to work as a team for Saturday,
February 16th , 2019. But very, very, very sadly when I woke up
around 3:30 am and I paged Biggy my colleague, and he asked me , brother Leo,
have you not heard the news? I asked him what news? He told me that Prof.
Mahmood Yakubu the Chairman of INEC had shifted the presidential and NASS
elections to Saturday 23rd, 2019. Infact I was heavily devastated
because I cannot really figure out the shifting in the dates.
Thanks to
God there was light, I quickly switched on the television and as I flicked
through the remote control the Alajazara channel came up and the first
headlines news aired was the postponement of the Presidential, NASS,
Gubernatorial and state Assemblies elections to 23rd February, 2019
and 9th March, 2019.
As our
duties call, we moved the train into Lagos metropolies to feel the pulse of the
citizenry. The citizenry came up with mixed feelings.
Speaking
with Alhaji Haruna Ibrahim, Chairman Scraps Association at Tejuosho market,
Yaba, Lagos, he said that he was shocked when he heard the news of postponement
of 16th February 2019, by INEC Chairman Prof. Yakubu. But, he says
that Nigerians should continue to pray to God for His protection, guidance and
all that throughout the land. He said that he is appealing to all Nigerians to
accept the shift in dates as an act of God adding that God Himself knew what
went wrong with the Commission. He said that he and his members would vote for
the candidates of their choice in all elections.
Speaking
again with Iconblacemagazineonlineportal Orwell Nwachukwu who lives at 22,
Ojuelegba road, Yaba and business man said that the shift in dates had gulped
up billions of naira in all ramifications. He said that shift in dates had
affected the entire fabrics of the republic in a bad light adding that Nigeria
is a dog who eats up her puppies by herself. He queried how can a father be at
home and his children and wardsare hungry, he said again that the international
Community would eternally look down on the people of Nigeria. Nwachukwu said
that Nigeria is the giant of Africa, yet, she does not show the giantness in
her for productiveness. He, however appealed to all sundry to stand up for the
goodnesses of the enire black race and come out to cast their votes on 23rd
February and 9th March, 2019.
He concludes
with prayers for Nigeria and Nigerians so that God Himself would cover everyone
with His Holy Spirit.
Speaking
with Iconblazemagazineonlineportal king Efefefe, Chairman of locked up shops,
Tejuosho market, Yaba, Lagos said that he received the news of postponement
with mixed feelings, but he however, said that God Himself knew exactly why the
shift in the dates.
He
pragmatically appealed to all electorate to come out enmass and cast their votes
for the candidates of their choice.
He equally
says no to rigging, violence and snatching of ballot boxes.
Viewing the
television continental Station,TVC professorof Mass Communication, University
of Lagos, Yaba, Lagos Raph Akinfeleye and Mercy Ikoku, the founder Emerge women
were the first two guests to air their views on the postponement of February 16th
2019 Presidential and NASS elections, for Prof Akinfeleye, he was in sympathy
with the INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmud Yakubu a Professor of History and Strategic
Studies, he did not take him to the cleaners. But , for Mercy Ikoku, she was
heavily piqued with the Chairman of INEC and the Commission herself as she that
she scandalized with the postponement in dates.
Prof.
Akinfeleye said that electoral materials did not get to the following states,
Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Taraba, Niger, Prof Akinfeleye queried if at 2:00 am on the 16th
February, 2019, the mentioned states had not received the electoral materials
that what the INEC Chairman and the Commission did would be considered a saving
face for the nation, But Ikoku the founder Emerge women did not see it the ways
Prof Akinfeleye saw it. She said that INEC had four whole years to prepare for
this election and to make the matter worsened that Prof. Yakubu the INEC
Chairman had kept assuring Nigerians that all was fine and smoothened with the
Commission to run elections as scheduled.
We at
Iconblazemagazineonlineportal do hereby appeal to all parties, electorate,
security operatives, gentlemen of the press, local and foreign observers,
candidates of various postions and political parties to know clearly, loudly
and pleasantly that powers come from God Himself through men and women.
God bless
Nigeria.
