Over 2000 Medical Practitioners Leave
This Country Annually – Prof. Fabanwo.

Speaking as the keynote speaker the
Chief Medical Director (CMD) Lagos State University Teaching Hospital LASUTH,
Ikeja, Lagos.
Prof. Adetokunbo Fabanwo painfully
disclosed to the audience at the Malaria Research Centre (MRC) Auditorium that
over 2000 Medical Practitioner do leave this country annually adding that the
whole essence of the brain drain is largely dwelling on the lack of good condition
of service for the medical practitioners.
He pragmatically outlined the many
reasons that associated with the brain drain syndrome adding that the theme of
the Medical Guild Lagos an association of Lagos State Government Employed Medical
and Dental Doctors at her Ordinary General Meeting 2019 Challenges of
inadequate Human Resources in the Health Sector: Way Forward as well as sub
themes (i) Cardiovascular Burden Among Health care Practitioners: Myth or
Reality and (ii)The Role of Medical Officer of Health in Primary Health Care
delivery.
He pleasantly told the participants that the Medical Guild Lagos also
has Continuous Medical Education (CMD) topics to be treated on Saturday 11th
May, 2019 and the topics are (i)Current Trends in Hepatitis B Management (ii)Teeth
whitening procedures (iii)Emergency preparedness and Disaster management.
Of a truth the CMD of LASUTH
Prof.Fabanwo did not disappoint the uncommon audience with his deftt and
celebraness of delivery the lecture to all and sundry. He regrettably told the audience that the
condition of service Medical Practitioners is nothing to write home about
compared to Canada where medical doctors got themselves together to inform the
authority that their salaries are too much for them.
Speaking further as the
keynote speaker Prof. Fabanwo said that the allure of oversea travel, economic
reasons, security, lack of fulfilling practices, terrible working condition and
lack of postgraduate training opportunities were the major reasons for the
massive brain drain in the health care sector adding that the pull factors
could also adduced the brain drain as in high wages, good education for their
children, lack of healthcare planning, the healthcare budget is usually low and
the authority don’t honour agreement reached.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD)
of LASUTH Ikeja, Lagos Prof. Fabanwo said that there are pros and cons of brain
drain adding that the National Health Act of 2014 and Basic Health Fund no deal
done on them. He said that the way forward would be declaring an emergency in
the health sector, reevaluating the health sector master plan and sincerity
should be applied when it should be implemented adding that the wages of
healthcare sector should be reviewed and as well as provision of special
welfare schemes for healthcare workers.
He told the audience that public health
facilities at all level, should be upgraded to the standard of Ayinke House. He
also recommended that minimal standards in private hospital, should be in a
operation for the benefits of all sundry. He recommended that the National
Health Insurance Scheme must be made workable at all levels of the federation.
He said that house job and residence issues must be carefully sorted
effectively and efficiently. He said that rural areas must be made attractive
for health care workers and that there should be medical cities put in place
like in Canada et’ al.
Speaking as one of the speakers Consultant Cardiologist
Ifako Ijaiye General Hospital. Dr. Lasisi Gbolade did not disappoint the
eclatic audience with his celebral delivery on the subtheme: Cardiovascular
Burden Among Health care Practitioners: myth or reality. And of a truth he did
exceedingly well with his academia expose and the second subtheme speaker Director,
Planning, Research and Statistics PHCS Dr. Giwa also did present his topic the Role
of Medical Officer of Health in Primary Healthcare Delivery.
He uncommonly used

The Medical

He said that he could

The Medical Guild opening ceremony
