METP ORGANISES TWO DAYS STRATEGIC
RETREAT

The
Ministry of Establishment, Training and Pension of Lagos State Government has
pleasantly and successfully organised two days strategic retreat at the Kano
Hall, NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos with the theme: Greater Lagos: Dream Achieve
IT, TOGETHER.
Speaking
to the participants the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Establishment, Training
and Pension, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle said that experience is
the best teacher, but, she avers that sometimes this experience does not come
into play because according to her every initiative should be taken with new
eyes and finally that participants should not lose focus on the on the vision
and mission of the Ministry of Establishment, Training and Pension.
Speaking
again she said that all the participants should possess the qualities of
humility, transparency, purpose driven, punctuality, loyalty, humbleness, and
finally sees all assignments very important to be handled with utmost determination
and dedication so that at the end no one loses focus. Speaking again she said
nobody is useless in life, and that the participants should believe that
everything is possible adding that the mind is very powerful tools in the
affairs of human beings.
She
said that one Dr. Rogers set a record in 1954 of running a marathon race less
than four minutes, but, again, she said that record had been broken by several
persons and she avers that nothing is impossible except if the participants are
not focussed to achieve the set out targets of the ministry for the
transformation of Greater Lagos of the 15th executive governor of
Lagos State Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo – Olu. She rounded off her interesting
presentation by letting all the participants to be in the know that all of them
are parts of the noble plans of changing Lagos as they all are change agents of
goodnesses adding that vision, speaking with one voice and rendering mutual
accountability would be their watch words and mantra of executing the theme
Greater Lagos: Dream, Achieve It Together. Speaking to the participants, the
lead facilitator, Director Pendaxia Limited, a Strategy Execution and
Organisation Performance Gbenga Owolabi did a group presentation of the Lagos
State Government with the T. H. E.

Speaking
further to the participants Owolabi said that executive, governor of Lagos
State Sanwo – Olu wishes to see Lagos State to be one of the top five African cities
of choice to invest, live, work, play and a tourist destination. Owolabi told
the participants the mission of the Lagos State government is building together
a greater Lagos anchored on inclusiveness, shared vision and prosperity
investment in the people of safe environment and finally economic friendly.
Speaking
as the guest speaker the Ag. Chief Executive Officer and Registrar of Chartered
Institute Personnel Management (CIPM) Dr. Layi Oladapo did not disappoint the
participants with his presentation on the overview of the office of Head Civil
Service (OHCES) Civil Service Transformation plan of 2017 – 2020 whereby he
said that they are working out modules where right pegs are put in the right
holes.
He said that there has to be reward system for workers to be motivated
to perform optimally. He cited example of nations that are doing well with
their civil services conditions of good work for instance Malaysia, Kenya,
Zambia and Singapore and again he submitted that there is a need to create a
pipeline for federal civil service adding that there has to be culture of
accountability as innovation is very critical in the 21st century.
He told the participants that government is the highest business anywhere
across the globe as the president of the United States of America, Mr. Donald
Thrump did leave his private business to run for the U.S Presidency in the
white House.
He
finally touched down that there has to be key milestone achievement for office
of Head of Civil Service in the transformation journey to bringing greater
rewards and motivations for civil servants. Speaking to the participants at the
two days METP Strategic Retreat Director General, Office of Transformation and
Creativity, Lagos state Toba Otusanya said that there has to be E – governance,
Digitalisation, Service chapter, Human Resources Professionalism, Citizen gate
Portal, Service automation and Growth mind set adding that they promote
professionalism as in the service itself and the environment he said service is
delivered to the customers. Speaking again Otusanya said that 14 general
hospitals have been chattered in Lagos State as well as creating Lagos state
government citizen gate portal which is an electronic portal that allows the
citizens to communicate with the government whenever the need arises. The DG
Otusanya did not disappoint the participants with his presentation where he
touched on Customer Care Management (CCM) benefits to citizen, Ease of Doing
Business (EODB) registering of property whereby certificate of occupancy
applications had been reduced from 77 days to 61 days.
He
concluded by saying that the public service is one of the oldest in the world,
its traditional bureaucratic and hierarchical in nature, therefore winning
strategies (other) known as public service reforms are required from time to
time to align it with present day realities for transformation and improved
delivery. Speaking with media the Director General of Training and Pension in
the Ministry of Establishment Training and Pension Mrs. Folashade Onanuga said
that government is all about services to the citizenry adding that the executive
governor Sanwo - Olu has mapped out workable programmes that would actually
make the Greater Lagos dreams do largely become a reality and achievable. She
said that the 100 days of the governor in the office has apparently shown that
the governor has really come to improve on the templates of Lagos State master
plan of making Lagos a five top city in whole of Africa.
