NANNM LASUTH BRANCH SHOWCASES 4TH ANNUAL
SCIETIFIC CONFERENCE, WORKSHOP 2019

The
National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Mid-wives (NANNM) Lasuth Branch has
pleasantly showcased her 4th Annual Scientific Conference Workshop
2019 with a theme Nurses: A VOICE TO LEAD: Health For All at the Malaria
Research Centre (MRC) Hall Lasuth, Ikeja Lagos. Speaking with journalists the
chairperson National Association of
Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) Lasuth Branch Comrade (Mrs) Tariela
Oladipupo said that their event showcased one week health issues for the
citizenry which commenced on 7th – 11th October, 2019 as
she added that the association had an outreach of roadwork of which heavy
awareness was created for the general public.
She
said that the one week event of the association witnessed various conference
papers presented by different experts with health related experiences to the
participants as she added that the World Health Mental Day fell into their 4th
Annual Scientific Conference and Workshop 2019 which the theme is that (Suicide
Is Not The Solution).
Speaking
further, comrade Oladipupo largely concurred with the United Nation theme that
suicide is not the solution as she added that there has been challenges with
the human beings since the globe has been created by God Himself. She opined
that prayerfulness and closeness to God at all times would radically change bad
times to favoured phase of life thereby the challenges would fizzle out into
nothingness and depression would largely fly away and a constructive right
thinking and right behaviour would be inculcated into the person(s) and suicide
would no longer be the solution as she added that about 800,00.00 persons
commit suicide annually globally, which she said that it is really alarming and
disturbing the globe in all ramifications.
Comrade
Oladipupo said that the people in power should create enable environment for
all the citizenry so that everyone could be gainfully engaged because an idle
mind is the devils workshop as she added that the health personnel are always
close to the patients in the hospital showing love and care at all times. She
said that they need more knowledge to be able to discharge their duties to
patients expertly as the globe has gone digital and such they also need to
improve their skills to catch up with new discoveries

Speaking
as the keynote speaker Head of Department Behaviour Medicine Department, Lagos
State University College of Medicine, Ikeja, Lagos Dr. Coker said that they
have to be heavy education, enlightenment and advocacy programmes to sensitise
the society to shun the option of committing suicide by oneself adding that
theme of the World Health Mental Day, “Suicide is not the solution” drums out a
clarion call that no one show take his or her life no matter what bad
situations they find themselves.
Speaking
as the guest lecturer, the Principal, School of Psychiatric Nursing Yaba, Lagos
Mrs Ladipo Clegg said that suicide is not the solution of all and sundry in a
given society. She delivered a well-researched lecture to the audience. She
stated a well staggering statistics of persons committing suicide, that World
Health Organisation (WHO) had published that 800,000 persons commit suicide yearly
as she added suicide has several methods which include individual jumping,
poisoning, sinpper, hanging, access to fire arms et’al.
She
said that every year that there is 31,000 attempts of suicides, which she
frowned at and she averred that to curb the suicide cases in the land that the
environment should be very safe, there should be adequate energy supply
regularly within the cities so as to see persons whose behaviour is ackward. She
said that nurse-patients relationship is very important and as well as develop
a longer term of managing the patients so that the patient could recover from
his or her hopelessness. Pain is temporary while suicide is permanent.
A
drama play was acted by the nurses and the main plot of the play was exceeding
love displayed to one child in the family while showing less love to other
children.
The
child with unloveness had to commit suicide as a way of ending her life. The
mother wept bitterly and blamed herself for the unfortunate suicide her
daughter committed. The chairperson of Association of Psychiatric Nurses
Nigeria (APONN) Lasuth Chapter Assistant Chief Nursing Officer Dada Oluwatosin
said that she pleasantly concurred with the speakers who had actually informed
the audience with the necessary information all and sundry need to know so as
to avoid suicide and live a healthy life style because life is beautiful and it
is really worthy to live well as well-baby, well-kid and well-teen. The event
took place at Lagbaja field, Lasuth, Ikeja, Lagos.
