is bleeding under heavy yoke of prices of things in the open market adding that
prices of things in the past were affordable, but now she avers that common

high cost of prices of items such as Amala which was sold for N100 is now selling for N500, Okra which was sold for N50 is now selling for N100, seed tomatoes which was sold for N500 per rubber is now selling for N1,200 per rubber, Palm oil formerly sold

Speaking further, the Iye-Eki
of Oba Market Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State said that all
the sellers in the Market are not happy as no customers are buying from them that
they are all wearing gloom faces as a result of low patronage from the last
consumers. She said she has been the Iye-Eki of Oba Market for 30years, adding
that there are twelve markets in Oredo Local Government Area and Oba Market is
the very first market to be created for economic activities, she says that
Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area has thirty-two markets, Egor Local Government
Area has twenty-eight markets which comprises of Ogida, Okhoro, Uselu, etc.
She also said that there are
no problems with the members of Oba Market which is under her watch as the
Iye-Eki as she added that the Federal Government, State Government and Local
Government should pragmatically reduce the price of things down that most
especially President Buhari should leave business for market women and men so
that they could control the prices of inflow of goods and services in the
market. She also agrees that not only prices of staple foods are on the high
side but that of building materials are also on the high side as she said again
that the price of a bag of Cement was formerly sold for N2,000 but now a bag of Cement is selling for N4,500 she also noted that ordinary wood which is used to build a
house is now selling for N4,500 which
was sold before for N1,800, very sadly
she queried that how can poor people be able to build houses anymore.
She also noted that Garri
which use to be the saviour of children when they come back from school is now
beyond the reach of parents thereby making many children to go about without
food as most parents could no longer afford to a paint rubber of Garri for N1,500 she also added that a stock fish
which used to be sold for N400 is now selling for N1,000. She noted that cow meat is no longer affordable and also
available for poor people adding that a whole cow is used to be bought between N100,000 to N150,000 but now it is selling above the roof tops at a whooping
price of N450,000 to half a million she
queried how many Nigerians can afford such amount of monies.
She again appealed to the Government to have mercies on the commoners because most family members are falling apart as a result of not been able to provide bread and butter on the table she also said most sellers are not friendly to customers as a result of low patronage from the society.
