Flags Off BOWFT with Ceremonial Kick

The First lady of Edo State Mrs. Betsy Obaseki
has pleasantly and sport womanly flagged of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football
Tournament (BOWFT) ceremonial kick of the ball at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium,
Ogbe Quarters, Benin City, Edo State in the full view of all and sundry. First
Lady of Edo State Mrs. Obaseki is accompanied with the spouse of the Deputy
Governor Rt Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, Mrs. Mariam Philip Shaibu, Daniel
Omokachi a.k.a. the bull and sports
lover and promoter Alhaja Ayo Omidiran when she did take the ceremonial kick at
the official opening ceremony of BOWFT, the maiden edition at Samuel Ogbemudia
Stadium, Ogbe Quarters, Benin City and of a truth she did take a heavy shot
when she kicked off the ball and she was proudly applauded by the audience who
cheered her with various blasting of horns from the Nigerian Football Clubs Supporters
et’al. The opening ceremony football match between Edo Queens Football Club,
Benin City and Naija Ratels Football Club, Abuja, is largely full of football
artistry displays from both sides.
The Edo Queens Football Club filed out in all
red jersey while Naija Ratels Football filed out in yellow jersey. Both Teams
had ball control of the game but, the Edo Queens Football Club players
displayed technicalities artistry towards goals scoring. The Edo Queens Football
Club scored her first goal at 36 minutes, two seconds in the first half by
player Ayinde Victoria of jersey No. 34 and the first half ended one nil goal
advantages to Edo Queens Football Club. The First half had extra time of two
minutes before the FIFA graded centre referee Yemisi Akintoye blew the halting
whistle. While the both sides were in their dressing rooms the Nigerian
Football Supporter’s Club thrilled the audience with various songs to keep the
main bowl of Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium aglow.
The second half resumed and the Naija Ratels
Football Club players showed more zeal at making frantic efforts to requalize
the first goal, but again the Edo Queen Football Club secored goal no two
through Glory Osagie of jersey No 11. At 15 minutes, 25 seconds of the second
half the Naija Ratels Football Club, Abuja had a penalty and they converted the
opportunity very well. At that the tournament stood at Edo Queen FC 2 – 1 against
Naija Ratels FC. The Edo Queen FC players outplayed their opponent but, the goal
of soccer is with them through the goals keeper who saved her team many goals
in fact, without those saves, Edo Queen Football Club, Benin City would at least
score 8 goals. At the end of 45 minutes regulation time the FIFA graded centre
referee Akintoye added extra three minutes, but the football match was stretched
into 51 minutes two seconds owing to the injury the goal keeper of Naija Ratels
Football Club, Abuja sustained.
The Edo Queen Football Club end three points
in their first outing. Earlier on, several matches were played at sports complex,
University of Benin, Ugbowo, Benin City and Western Boys Grammar School, Ikpoba
Hill near Ramat Parks, Benin City. FC Robo 5, Royal Queens 0 the two teams
played at Western Boys Grammar School, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City. Heartlands
Queens, FC, Owere, Imo State 1 and Roll Angels 0. The two teams played at Sports
Centre, Uniben, Benin City. While Rivers Angels 4, Fortress Ladies 0, Bayelsa
Queens 0 Confluence Queens Lokoja, Kogi State 0.
Speaking to the audience, the first lady of
Edo State Mrs. Obaseki states that the theme of the maiden edition of Betsy Obaseki
Women Football Tournament BOWFT is to proudly, effectively, efficiently,
tenaciously, pragmatically and assiduously promote the education of the Girl
Child in Nigeria adding that the Girl Child should have equal opportunities
like her male counterparts in the scheme of things in the body polity of the
federation. The Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament BOWFT has gathered 12
women football clubs across the federation.
The opening ceremony witness little female
