OKUNBOR DELIVERS UNIBEN 51ST
FOUNDER’S DAY LECTURE, 46TH, 47TH CONVOCATION CEREMONIES

Speaking
as the country chair, shell companies in Nigeria and Managing Director, the
Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited Osagie Okunbor delivers
the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria 51st
Founder’s Day Lecture with the topic “THE GLOBAL ENERGY TRANSITION FOR
NIGERIA” at Akin-Deko Auditorium, Ugbowo Campus to the uncommon crowds, as
he also harped on the 46th and 47th Convocation
Ceremonies of which he did give lecture outlines as follows:

Of a truth the guest lecturer Okunbor a graduate from the same university of Benin City of many decades did not disappoint the academia, and the general public with his cerebral educations on each of the lecture outlines and the lecture is delivered with the aid of slides thereby making the lecture more elucidating, interactive, interesting and finally more comprehensive to go home with unimaginably pointers he did raise. He pragmatically concluded his firebrand lecture with the following submissions (The ongoing energy transition with us.
As with
other transition, it is a journey that will involve multiple approaches,
collective actions and undoubtedly present news challenges and opportunities.
Speaking further to the eclatic audience with his conclusion, he posits that
Nigeria is well positioned to ride the wave of the current energy transition
with its abundance of natural fossil/fuels and renewable solar energy adding
that they need to move with a greater sense of urgency and a clear sense of
direction.
Speaking
further Okunbor concludes that as one of the foremost universities in Nigeria
University of Benin has played significant roles in research, education and
advocacy adding that they can only deepen this role in this era of huge investments
in low carbon energy option and the rapid build out of technologies that have
never been displayed in body polity as he also avers that he looks to see the
academia and graduates from the University who would in future build these low
carbon technologies and lead the nation into the emerging decades where
renewable energy takes a more relevant roles in the energy mix, thereby
creating more economic opportunities for the down trodden masses when Okunbor
rounded off his classic lecture, the audience applauded him with a standing
ovation and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Benin City Prof.
Lilian Salami pleasantly presented an award of excellence to him.
Speaking
to the audience with his closing remarks the Chancellor of the University of
Benin, Benin City, His Royal Majesty Orchivirigh, Professor James Ortese,
Iorzua, Ayatse, Tor Tiv commended the guest lecturer of the day Okunbor for a
job well done adding that SUCCESS has multiple friends whereas nobody wishes to
associate with failure. He pleasantly informed the audience that success means
a lot in the life of individuals, institutions and nations adding that prayers
are extremely necessary for anyone to succeed in life because God rules in the
affairs of men adding that the first(s) in the word’s “Success” is seek
God because God Himself because God distributes all blessings to all those that
call upon Him. He says that people should utilize everything available to them
to make sure good results are achieved as they utilize every option.
He
says that consultations, communications, commitment are extremely needed by
leaders at all classes so that all and sundry would be carried along in the
scheme of things because leadership is not easy. He told the audience that
change is a constant object that leadership and followership need to change as
events are unfolding adding that examination of actions, behaviour, exchange of
words are very important to note. He says that submission to constituted
authority is very good because if leaders and followers refuse to submit, that
there would be frequent crisis from time to time which are not healthy for the
management.
He
says that there has to be supplications which means prayers to God because God rules
in the affairs of the mankind. He generally handed down templates of healthy
relationships for both the leadership of the university and the followership of
the system adding that co-operations are key to massive successes of any
individual, institutions and nations. The audience received a basket of
cultural dance and music from the students of Theatre Departments, Faculty of
Arts, University of Benin, Benin City. Prof. Mike Omoigberale the Chairman Ceremonies
Committee delivered the vote of thanks where he pleasantly acknowledged all and
sundry for the wonderful roles they have all contributed to the uncommon
successes the 51st Founder’s Day Lecture and 46th and 47th
Convocation Ceremonies recorded.
Speaking
with iconblazemagazineonline Prof. Omoigberale the Chairman Ceremonies
Committee states that the University of Benin, was born on November 23rd
1970 by Late Military Administrator Brig-General Samuel Osagbovo Ogbemudia
adding that in the last 51st years the University has leaped from
leaves of research, education, advocacy et’al and that the school has produced
many relevant men and women in the body polity. He states that good things are
happening as in the kind of works the current Vice Chancellor Prof. Mrs. Salami
has embarked for the public good of all and sundry.
Speaking
with iconblazemagazineonline Prof. Clarkson Edema a 1973/1974 set of
undergraduate states that he is really pleasant that he is alive to be one of
the 51st Founder’s Day lecture and as well as 46th and 47th
convocation ceremonies adding that the school has done tremendously well since
her inception for the public. He says that the school has done well in all
areas of human development as the school offers courses that bring advancements
to all and sundry. Speaking with iconblazemagazineonline Prof. Victoria Elo
Okereke states that she is very grateful to God that her school of 51 years ago
has done pleasantly well for the developments of men and women who have passed
through the system as well as those that will be admitted to become
undergraduates in the years ahead.
Speaking
with iconblazemagazineonline Dr. Dominic Ukpong a foundation 1970 set students,
immediate past Hon. Commissioner of Health in Akwa-Ibom State and currently
Hon. Special Adviser on Health Matters and Co-ordinator for Covid-19 Management in Akwa-Ibom State stated
that the University of Benin, Benin City has really grown from leaves and
abounds with uncommon successes recorded virtually in all areas of the human
development adding that in the last 51 years that the school has expanded in
all facets of human percapital growth.
Speaking
with iconblazemagzineonline Prof. Stephena Ighedosa, a Prof. of Epidemiology
and Public Health Response to Climate Change and she is also of the Department
of Community Health Faculty of Health Sciences University of Benin, Benin City
states that she is a proud foundation set of 1970 and that when they began
medical studies that UBTH has not been built thereby all the medical students
were moved to ABU Zaria for continuous studies adding that when UBTH was
finally built that they returned back to Benin City to continue their studies
as Medical Students.
She
states that she has been Professor that has been producing Professors, Ph.D
holders, Master Degree holders and Graduates for about four decades now she
says that she cannot thank God sufficiently because God Himself have been very
very very kind to her adding that the University of Benin, Benin City has done
greatly well in all ramifications of human developments. Speaking with
iconblazemagazineonline Dr. Sunny Kuku of Eko Hospitals, Lagos states that he
is really over joyous in his mind for the uncommon changes the University
Community has worn adding that the present Vice Chancellor Prof. Salami and her
team have really done well in the areas of research, education and advocacy as
he also wishes the current 46th and 47th graduands all
the best as they journey into the life of the unknown.
Speaking
with iconblazemagazineonline Prof. Osuoji stated that during their days as
undergraduates that they took their studies very seriously and they attended
classes regularly as well as they respect their parents, elders within the
community and the lecturers but he regrettably said that these days
undergraduates are the opposite sides of their time adding that the
undergraduates of these days lack discipline and industry, they do not attend
classes, they do not attend to the assignments given to them, they are involved
in cultism of which they are often prone to destruction.
He
queried that if all the facilities are destroyed who are the losers, he says
that the students are the great beneficiaries of the lost as he added that the
University has come a long way since her inception on November 23rd
1970 by Late Brig-General Ogbemudia when he was the Military Administrator of
Old Midwestern Region he also concurs that the University has fed very well in
the last 51 years.
