WOMEN LOVE THEMSELVES UNCOMMONLY – IYOM ANENIH

Speaking to the members of the press at the National Secretariat of League Women Voters of Nigeria at Willy Oshodin Street, Off Akhionbare, G.R.A, Benin City, Edo State Former Minister of Women Affairs, NILOWV 1st Vice President and Chair Person 25th Anniversary local organizing committee (LOC) Iyom Josephine Anenih Esq, MNI, FNIMSCN states at a press conference that women love themselves uncommonly adding that what seemed for women to always hate themselves in the past.

 

Speaking further to the members of fourth estate of the realm she states that the difference women saw as hatred for themselves is as a result of the handiwork of men who have always told lies at women to fellow women adding that the narratives are now changing for the public good of the women.

 

Speaking further to the members of the press she states that the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV) is a registered non-governmental, non partisan, not for profit organization founded by Rt. Hon. Dame Esther Uduehi in the year 1996 following the UN 4th Global Conference for Women in Beijing, China to support women advancement in politics, public affairs and national development adding that as a grassroot NGO with members in all 36 states of the Federation and FCT inclusive as she added again that the League attracts to herself girls and women from age 18years and above for mentoring, sensitization, education especially on their civic rights and responsibilities. She says that NILOWV has engaged all major political parties, agencies and institutions like National Assembly for Policy and Law Reforms to increase women’s access and participation in public affairs.

 


Speaking further to the members of the press she states that they are delighted to have this unique opportunity to brief their esteemed friends in the media the fourth estate of the realm on their 25th Anniversary Celebration which did start with activities in their local chapters and is now culminating in a National Conference with a theme “FULL AND EQUAL PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN IN PUBLIC LIFE AND LEADERSHIP” taking place in the metropolis of Benin City at National Secretariat, NILOWV on 19th November, 2021 and would be rounded off with Abuja based activities from 20th to 28th November,2021.

 

She says that the theme is to enable the League to fully explore the progress that have been made by women in public life and leadership these last 25 years regardless the challenges and what more needs to be done by all stake holders in that direction as it has become an established fact that no nation can develop when half of her population is held back adding that the key note speaker is none other than Dame Pauline Tallen the present Minister for Women Affairs and Social Developments.

 


She states that NILOWV like her counterparts all over the globe continues to encourage and empower their women and girls to be informed and active in politics and governance as she added that they are glad to note that in Nigeria women has become the highest number of voters, but, they are striving to see the utilization of their votes to jerk up women’s participation in decision making in politics and governments through voting for women to occupy such posts for the Nation. Speaking further at the Press Parley she states that the media has been unimaginably supportive of their aspirations to encourage and soar active participation of Nigeria women particularly in the various electoral exercises that will be taken place since 1999 when the Nascent Democracy did begin.

 

Speaking with iconblazemagazineonline Chairperson Executive Board of Girls Power Initiative (GPI) Lady Grace states that the media parley held at the National Secretariat League of Women Voters of Nigeria is a meeting of partnering as it is clearly seen that the press is willing to partner with NILOWV in addressing issues affecting women generally, especially the mindset around women participation in decision making. She has been uncommonly working hard to making sure that girls are not for sale and that the trafficking of girls should be halted for the public good of all and sundry as she says that this year makes her 27 years in championing the worthy causes of the girl child.

 


Speaking with iconblazemagazineonline Prof. Josephine Mokwunyi of the Faculty of Arts, Music Department, University of Benin, Ugbowo Campus, Benin City, Edo State stated that the press parley organized by NILOWV is very eventful adding that they have come a long way in the last 25 years championing the causes of women with various empowerment programmes as she added that the seed sown by the founder and president Rt. Hon. Dame Uduehi since 1996 has now grown to accommodate all classes of women for development. She says that they are grateful to God for the blossoming of the association to a higher height. Speaking with iconblazemagazineonline Bar. Ayans Eweka states that the media parley of the NILOWV is a good one for them as members adding that 25 years in the life of an association like theirs has come a long way with successes and as well as challenges.

 

She believes that women are beginning to love themselves very lovably because the narratives are changing for the better for them the women folk. Speaking with iconblazemagazineonline Former Vice Chairman of Ovia North East Local Government Area Hon. Maureen Ekhoraghon JP states that the press parley is a very good one despite the challenges and difficulties most women have faced in the past adding that they the members of NILOWV have been striving in the last 25 years to making sure that lots of women are lifted out of poverty line with various empowerment programmes.

 

She says that there are private empowerment programme, public empowerment programme and governmental empowerment programme adding that they are heavily involved in private empowerment programmes like empowering the family of widows et’al.
