PROF. OKONJI DELIVERS THE 259TH INUAGUAR LECTURE SERIES OF UNIBEN

Speaking to the gathering at the Akin Deko Main Auditorium Hall of the University of Benin, Ugbowo Campus, Benin City, Edo State Professor (Mrs) Adesuwa Osahon the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration (DVCA) who stood in for Madam Vice Chancellor Professor Lilian Imuetiyan Salami states that in the course of running the University, that she has chaired 31 Inaugural lectures, that the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Benin has also delivered 11 Inaugural lectures while the department of Fishery of the Faculty of Agriculture is now delivering the second of her Inaugural lectures of which Professor Victor Azubuike Okonji has pleasantly and academically delivered to the full view of the general public.

 

The topic of the 259th Inaugural Lecture in the series of University of Benin which the topic is (In search of sustainable Fish Supply Through Agriculture). Speaking as the Inaugural Lecturer to the gathering Prof. Okonji did not disappoint the uncommon crowds that have come from all walks of life to grace the event.

 He superlatively displayed the Professorial Chair of deliveries of the said topic (In search of sustainable Fish Supply Through Agriculture) as he largely delivered on the old Chinese adage that giving a fish to a man, the man is being fed for one day, again he states that in the past it used to be teach a man how to fish, that man would begin to fend to his needs and all that, again, Prof. Okonji states that the Philosophy has proven to fail adding that the right orientation is to teach a man how to grow fish and that the man would have fish all the days of his life and also be opportune to be employer of labour thereby clearing the length and breath of labour market of unemployed graduates.

 

Speaking further to the audience Prof. Okonji states that there are too many chemicals in the natural waters which largely affect the growth of fish whereas he adduced that the fish grown by individuals, has less chemical to grow with. He states that the head of fish is very good for older people, also the tail of the fish while the centre part is very good for younger generations.

 

He states that the Government should key into fish production because it is one area to raise the bar at the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which would largely create employments for the teeming down trodden masses in the streets. Prof. Okonji is a current President of Uniben Faculty of Agriculture Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited (FAGCOOP).

Speaking with iconblazemagazineonline Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration Prof. Osahon states that the 259th Inaugural Lecture in the series of University of Benin, has really affordable all and sundry the golden opportunities of growing up fish for consumption of the growers and as well as providing a means of employments of the teeming youths from the streets and she generally gave one 100% pass marks to Prof. Okonji for a good delivery of the said topic (In search of sustainable Fish Supply Through Agriculture).
