NIMR HOLDS A MEDICAL RETREAT

Speaking
as the Director General of Nigerian Institute of Medical Research at Raddison
Blue Hotels, Isaac Johns Street, G.R.A, Ikeja, Lagos State Professor Babatunde
Salako pleasantly stated that the five years strategic objectives of NIMR has
fully ran its course with most of the set out agenda for the period under
review 2017-2021 were achieved adding that the remaining agenda that the
institute is not able to accomplish would be moved to the next strategic
objective plan that would run from 2022-2026.
Speaking
further to the gathering Prof. Salako states that the covid-19 of 2020 actually
was a blessing in disguise to them because the outbreak of covid-19 challenged
NIMR to her bone marrows where ideas, ideals, research methods were
academically developed for the improvement of their jobs specifications as he
added again that the government assisted them with a whooping sum of three
billion naira only.
Speaking
further to the audience the Director General of Nigerian Institute of Medical
Research (NIMR) Prof. Salako states that the covid-19 era actually afforded them
to have almost gathered all the facilities they needed to function at a full
capacity as a Research Institute for instance, he says that the NIMR has
several vehicles to use by research fellows at their own whims and caprices, a
befitting administrative blocks that workers are uncommonly proud to work with
the NIMR adding that NIMR achieved unprecedented landmarks research discoveries,
but, very sadly, Prof Salako averred that the Federal Government does not
provide policy that accord home grown contents as it happened in India, Russia
et’al.
He
averred that the Federal Government should as a matter of governmental policies
recognize the local contents of products produced by Nigerians so that there
would be heavy encouragement to the experts who work relentlessly. He states
that the Federal Government succeeded in the management of all the stages of
covid-19 adding that the present omicron variant is more deadly than that Delta
variant adding that there has to be social distancing, Nose mask wearing,
washing of hands. People should go out and take the vaccine jabs for heavy
protection.
He also
said that as Christmas is around the conner that we should avoid large
gatherings at all times so as to reduce the incidences of contacting omicrom
variants. He also adduced that the challenges of NIMR is under staffing. He
unimaginably received an award from the servicom section of Ministry of Health
for a job well done in the last five years of calling the shots at the NIMR. This medical retreat of NIMR takes place on
Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th December, 2021.
