CYFI @ 10

Speaking as a Special Guest of Honour at Agip Recital Hall, Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos Island, Lagos. Ogiame Atuwatse III-The Olu of Warri States that Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative has come a long way since its inception 10 years ago adding that CYFI has pragmatically, effectively, efficiently and uncommonly affected the dynamics of the youths that have keyed into the bandwagon in the last 10 years. 

Speaking further to the audience he states that the theme of the 10th Anniversary Symposium (Rethinking  Governance for Youth and Women’s Participation) apparently an acknowledgement of the invaluably strategic cause of bringing together Nigerian Youths with exceptional vision, skills, and experience to design and implement projects that have a positive impact on Nigerian Society-adding that the tragic under representation of both these crucial segments of the society actually magnifies the gap that exists in the effectiveness of government which needs of government to be bridged as he added again that the theme suggests, the actions taken to bridge thus gap must “Beyond Tokenism”. 

Speaking further to the gathering Ogiame Atuwatse III. The Olu of Warri states that the Socio Economic fractures in the nation are effectively mended and that no one is left to fall through the cracks by way of access to the formulation and benefits that come with inclusive and purposeful governance adding that for truly one cannot decouple the society to exclude representation of a part of the human creation as this would automatically go against natural justices and love for all and sundry whatever collective that is being governed-the very raison d’etre for good governance in the first place. 

He states that Natural Traditional Rulers as themselves are very important aspect of the society to ensuring that Justice is uphold adding that the Youths are the ones that are best equipped with contemporary learning to mind and be able to interpret codes to framing the algorithms of the ideas and ideals needed to create economic prosperity that arises from the emergent technologies and social shifts as human civilization inevitably professes. 

And again, his Royal Majesty, Olu of Warri states that Women are the nurturing instincts ingrained in their peculiar essence are needed to tend the young people imbue with the natural inclination to deploy creativity and innovation in the disciplined pursuit to improve and change potential into value for all and sundry.

 Speaking to the gathering the Spouse of Late former American Ambassador to Nigeria Carrington Dr. Arese Carrington, a co-founder of the Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative and as well as Alumni Network pleasantly informed the gathering that it is really true that her late husband Carrington is not physically at the symposium but, very gladdeningly he is at the event spiritually as she added that her late husband was appointed as an ambassador to Nigeria, that her late husband came and used the strings of his office to fight injustices in the land. 

She states that her late husband does not believe in keeping silence in the face of failed bad governance, hence, he pragmatically used the strings of his office to raise the bar of justice for the downtrodden masses and this singular dogged tenacity earned him dearly to the hearts of all lovers of democratic values adding that her late husband meant well for the youths and women. 

She also states that the future belongs to the Youths hence the Leadership has to effectively and efficiently programme the issues that would affect the youths positively be inclusive in the constitution of the land. 

Speaking to the audience the representative of the executive Governor of Lagos State HE Babajide Olusola Sanwo Olu the Hon. Commissioner of Training and Pensions Mrs Ponley states that the Governor would have loved to be physically present at the Inaugural Ambassador Walter Charles Omowale Carrington Annual Symposium, but because Mr. President Muhammadu Buhari came to Lagos for the book lauch of Bisi Akande (My participations), hence he has directed her to stand in for him adding that Mr. Governor Sanwo Olu wishes the CYFI to grow from leaps and bounds in the years ahead. 


Speaking to the audience the Deputy Governor of Edo state RT. Hon and Comrade Philip Shaibu narrated to the gathering what happened in Lagos during the 1993 June 12 election where Late Chief MKO Abiola won the said Presidential election freely, yet, the Military Junta under General IBB rescinded the election adding that he just came back to Lagos from University of Jos and again he noted the worthy and wonderful roles late Ambassador Carrington played to making sure that democratic values did not fly away through the windows as he states that the Legacies of Late Carrington cannot be wished away just like that, he commended the Chair of the CYFI for their doggedness in the last 10years. 

Speaking to the gathering the guest speaker Ambassador NkoyoToyo states that women should come out from their closed shells and become partakers in the political orientations of the land adding that they should begin to start political processes from their wards by becoming a member of a political party and thereby the participations of the women in the political processes of the land. 

She tells the audience that politics is all about inclusion not exclusion and nobody would ever give one the opportunities of becoming somebody if the person is not involved in the system that would make her relevant in the political affairs. 

The panelists session of the symposium which Mayowa Tijani moderated and Oyeyemi Emmanuel, Alimi George, Rafai Oseni and Okikiola Taiwo Jalupon made up the table of discussion and of a truth these young persons did extremely well with their cerebral analysis of what the system has done to the downtrodden masses.

 They actually showed some critical issues that have consistently affected the women in the active political activities as Okikiola Jalupon shared her experiences as a woman who has been desiring to hold a political office. Rafai Oseni of Arise Television states that women need good media managers who would be able to churn out write ups and inspiring features in the favour of the women political actors because good reports mean lots of change in the narratives. 

Alimi George concurs that women should come out and be part of the game changing in the political turf of the land. Oyeyemi Emmanuel states that at 17 years old she has been dreaming to be the President of Nigeria as she added that her husband has been a standing pillar to her dreams.
