Dr (Ms) Olu Delivers Yabatech 13th Inaugural Lecture Series 2022

Dr (Ms) Chukwuenwenwe Uzochukwa Olu a Chief Lecturer of School of Liberal Studies, Department of Languages of Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos, South West Geo Political district, West Africa has pleasantly and uncommonly delivered the 13th Inaugural Lecture Series 2022 with the title “Context and Language in the Polytechnic: Implications For Communication and Pedagogy” at the college Hall of Yaba College of Technology. 

Speaking to the gathering the 13th Inaugural lecturer Dr (Ms) Olu states that the inaugural lecture is adequately focused on the context and language in the polytechnic adding that the implications on communication and pedagogy as she also added that the terms context and language uses being keywords shall be defined and the implication of these concepts relative to the scheme of work of the National Diploma (ND) and as well as the Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes. 

Speaking further to the audience, she states that with special reference to Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos shall be indicated adding that the reference documents in the lecture are the 1999 National Board for Technical Education and General Studies (GNS) course specifications for ND and HND programmes. 

Speaking further to the eclatic gathering at the College Hall of Yaba College of Technology, the Chief Lecturer of School of Liberal Studies, Department of Language, Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos states that the lecture is heavily designed to specifically examine the significance of context and language use in the Polytechnic adding that the implications of these key concepts for communication and pedagogy shall be looked into objectively and effectively. 

Speaking again to the audience Dr (Ms) Olu states that in Yaba College of Technology, the courses in Communication and Language Skills include the Use of English, Communication in English and Literary Appreciation as well as Oral Composition adding that these courses are studied in the then General Studies Department, now Language Department and she also added that these courses are made to equip students and help them develop effective language and communication skills. Speaking further, she states that these skills are very important for upward socio-economic mobility and employability in the 21st century adding that their observation as language and communication teachers is that there is a deep-seat misconception and a gross under appreciation of the relevance of Language and Communication Skills Courses among students as well as lack of facilities to enhance learning in the college. 

Speaking to the audience, the Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos, Engr. Obafemi Omokengbe states that the 13th inaugural lecturer delivered her lectures with clarity and passion adding that the Lecturer did academically analyse the difficulties encountered in the process of admitting new students into the college adding that the lecturer has pragmatically, objectively, effectively and efficiently did unimaginably expose a lot on the subject matter thereby she has elegantly assisted the school management and policy makers of issues of improving Language, Communications et’al.
