ALL ELECTIONS IN NIGERIA MUST BE CREDIBLE – MAIKYAU

Speaking as the chairman of morning session of day two of Nigerian Bar Association, Benin Branch, (The Lion Bar) Benin – City, Edo State 2022 Annual Law Week with the theme (Security: Panacea for National Growth at Sir Victor Uwaifo Innovative Hub, Airport Road, Benin City and Edo State High Court Ceremonial Hall, Sapele Road, Benin City, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau states that all elections in Nigeria must be credible adding that the topic for the paper presentation is Credible Elections as a Tool for National Development as he charges all lawyers to be courageous at all given times when handling electoral litigations regardless whose ox is gored.

 

He commended the NBA Benin Branch (The Lion Bar) executive members for their grit in organizing the 2022 Annual Law Week. The paper presenter Chief Ighodalo Imandogbelo SAN presented a thought provoking submissions that set the floor for the discussants to do justice to the issues he raised from his paper presentations. The Head of Department Legal services Mrs. Nkiru Okpalanuzie who represented the Resident Electoral Officer of Edo State Independent Electoral Commission states that their commission has been working hard in all fronts so as to making sure that they hold free, fair and credible elections at all elections in Nigeria adding that the politicians and electorate are the ones always willing to rock down the boat of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at any given election.


Speaking further, she states that electorate are always demanding monies from politicians before voting for the candidates and again she avers that the ideas of either vote buying or inducement of the electorate must not be encouraged in the first place. Other discussants submitted innovative view points why there has to be credible elections in the body polity because when elections are free, fair and credible in the body polity, there shall be massive tools for national development.

 

The afternoon session is chaired by Nosa Edo – Osagie Esq. and the paper presenter is Professor Job Ohioma Odion, a professor of Law, University of Benin, Ugbowo Campus, Benin City, Edo State who pleasantly presented innovative opines on the topic Relationship Between The Bar and Law Enforcement Agencies and of a truth Prof. Odion did not disappoint the members of the bar and bench with his superlative pointers as to make the relationship between the bar and the law enforcement agencies very cordial. But, the discussants submitted that the relationship between the lawyers and police is always that of cats and rats relationship, they adduced that the police are always piqued at lawyers at their station, as they all concurred that the lawyers need to employ wisdom when dealing with police at all occasions adding that life is very beautiful, therefore they the lawyers should always apply tactfulness when dealing with police particularly. 


They all submitted that police is always telling lawyers if they have come to the station to teach them their jobs all because they see lawyers as agents who blocked their chances of extorting monies from the public. These discussants are Desmond Iyamu Esq, from NBA Abuja, Akorede Habeeb Lawal NBA Asaba, Maltida Otoide Mrs. NBA Benin. This session is compered by Barr. Mark Ebie.

 BENIN CITY SIT OUT FOR Y.C. MAIKYAU SAN 

The Heavens opened his windows and the rain came down heavily, yet the Benin City sit out for Maikyau SAN took place as scheduled at the upper room of the NBA Benin Branch (The Lion Bar) Secretariat at Court Road GRA Benin City where many senior lawyers and others attended the Benin City Sit Out for Maikyau SAN who came from Abuja to seek for the supports of the lion bar for the office of national president of NBA which the election day shall be July 16th 2022 at Abuja.

Speaking to the bar and bench Maikyau states that he has put himself forward for the office of the national president of NBA and that he believes that he is at home with NBA Benin Branch (The Lion Bar) hence he has come to pleasantly and pragmatically seek for their supports at the polls on a Saturday July 16th, 2022 and again that he shall be eternally grateful to them because they are one family. 

He states that Ken Mozia SAN is a bigger brother to him because he was still in primary school when Mozia SAN was called to Bar adding that he would like Mozia SAN as a bigger brother to help him to talk to members of the lion bar for their kindest supports. The Benin City Sit Out for Maikyau is an evening of exchanging banters, pleasantries and barbecue. Et’ al.
