By Leo Ezekiel

Speaking to the gathering of all brands of Journalists at Protea Hotel, Ikeja Select, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos at media Roundtable on “Deepening Media Professionalism Through Co-regulation” the chairman of the event His Excellency Olusegun Osoba a former Executive Governor of Ogun State when the nascent democracy did begin in year 1999 and as well as a media veteran of many decades states that the Nigeria Union of Journalists is the father of all media practitioners in the land.

Speaking further he informed the audience that he himself did begin practices of Journalism with the Daily Times of Nigeria in June 24, 1964 adding that he has personally cut his teeth in all areas of media applications. He pragmatically praised the new leadership of NUJ under the watch of Comrade Chris Isiguzo for uncommon leadership streaks where there are no factions, crises, bickering et’al.

He also commended media practitioners for attending the media roundtable on time and exhibiting good and high standards of moral behavior all through the parley.

He also commended the committee that handled the 2022 Draft Code of Ethics for Nigerian Journalists of which Mr Lanre Idowu of Media Review did the presentation to the media practitioners.

Speaking to the audience with his submissions the Chairman of NUJ Comrade Isiguzo noted that the owners of media houses are not packaged in the 2022 Draft Code of Ethics For Nigerian Journalists adding that the owners of media houses pay poor salaries to their reporters and sometimes, that some of them treat Journalists with heavy disdains and disrespects all because they work for them.

The media roundtable generated several reactions from media practitioners which did make the gathering interesting and inspiring.

The publisher of Guardian Newspaper Mrs Maiden Ibiu did make a spiritual submission on behalf of hate publisher of leadership Newspaper deceased Sam Ndah Isaiah whereby one minute silence was observed for him and all the faithful departed through the mercy of God of the prophets and Apostles.
