NEWS EXTRA GOV. OBASEKI PARLEYS JOURNALISTS ASSURES OF REGULAR MEDIA PARLEYS ET’AL

BY LEO EZEKIEL

His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Edo State Mr. Godwin Obaseki has graciously held a media parley with journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Edo State Council, Oba Oguola Press Centre, No. 1 Sir/Chief Gabriel Igbeniodion Road, G.R.A, Benin City. Speaking to the members of the fourth estate of the realm, he states that he pleasantly decided to reconnect with the media adding that he was with the media men and women six years ago.

Speaking further he noted that he believes largely that the journalists are very much objective in their styles of reporting issues of interests to the general public thereby the citizenry are correctly informed of the great strides of developments his administration has done for the  public and civil service. In his words “I am here to tell you that we are still partners- in-progress”. They said Obaseki is not working, we have not seen anything he has done, but, I want to tell you that we have done much and very shortly we shall be rolling out our works. We are concerned about the next generation of Edo. How do we ensure our children have the best and quality education

Speaking again, His Excellency Obaseki uncommonly praised the chairman of the council Comrade Festus Alenkhe for the ongoing massive transformations at the Edo State NUJ noting that Comrade Alenkhe is equally replicating the kind of heavy transformation his administration is carrying out in Edo State particularly in the infrastructural developments. He congratulated Mr. Chairman Comrade Alenkhe adding that there has been a great improvements he saw as he drove in. In his words, I am actually proud of you. I am really, really proud of you because you have taken the kind of strides we are taking as a government

In providing answers to the issues of bad roads around the state, he lamented that the federal government has stalled their efforts in trying to repair the bad portions of collapsed federal roads. He added that the federal road controller is always telling them that he is in Abuja, thereby making it extreme difficult for the matters to be discussed by parties involved. He added that the federal government would say that contract has been awarded for the repairs, yet, nothing worthwhile has been done. He added that it is really frustrating the good jobs his administration is doing. He added that in the past when a state government repairs any bad roads belonging to the federal government and when the state government writes for refund of monies expended from federal government, that such monies are refunded. He added that the federal government has made certain policies very difficult for state governments, hence his administration cannot repair bad federal government roads in the state.
